In this magazine, you will find that there are different topics, but they all relate to one another and each one is unique. Each writer in the magazine was able to bring more attention to the topic with all of the research and personal experience that they have from it. We named the magazine HOPE because all of our topics dealt with heavy subject but our goal was to bring hope and not despair. We weren’t able to meet up with our group outside of class but we were all able to help each other by communicating through text and it was the best decision for the magazine.

Jacob I chose my Flash Memoir because it is a personal experience that I couldn’t help but conjure up as I read story, after story, of violent crimes. Rather than it being a story of how I experienced these awful acts, it is a story of how I was lucky enough to escape unscathed. I decided to include my Persuasion piece because it effectively proposes my solution; addressing some of the many concerns people have about CCW’s, and providing data and statistics showing the result of CCW’s in America. Lastly, I adapted two of my notebook entries into an easy to read call to action, providing additional data and inviting you to join in the fight for safety and self-defense.
Sam/Saylah AirmetMy contributions to this magazine are a revised persuasion piece, a revised profile, and an adapted memoir. My persuasion piece is a protest speech and in my original draft I wasn't taking advantage of the genre the way I should have been, so it had a lot of potential to grow. My profile has a lot of interesting information and definitely shows an important way Utah is interacting with the issue of teen suicide, but originally it felt stilted. It needed to flow better to reach its full potential. My memoir is very personal to me and emotional. I decided to adapt it into a photo essay because I felt that there was more potential for an emotional connection to images than words.

Attean MillsFor my topic, I wanted to focus on drug and opioid addiction in Utah. I’m passionate about this issue because I have had family members that have struggled with drug addiction and wanted to further educate myself. Through my research, I found various forms of information and facts that helped me piece all my projects together. I chose to showcase three of my projects: my persuasion effect assignment, my profile assignment, and my information effect. I wanted to take the visual route for each of the three assignments to help showcase the facts and statistics relating to the opioid epidemic in Utah. My overall goal is to educate people and help them learn how to stop this crisis and spread awareness.
Jacky I chose to revise my memoir because I wanted to share in the magazine how I have personal experience on the topic of mental illness and I also wanted to share my story. Having to decide which of my project to adapt was hard because I was afraid that I wasn’t going to be able to find something that would work or not make it look weird. I ended up deciding to adapt my informational effect into a infographic because I liked that the information effect provides a lot of facts that support the topic and the reason I decided to adapt it into an infographic is because having pictures makes it more interesting than having to read nothing but facts.
